The UK Chemicals Stakeholder Forum (UKCSF) has published an SME-friendly guide on authorization under the EU’s REACH Regulation.  The Forum was frustrated that there was no clear guidance that was directed especially to downstream users –  processors who use chemicals – that don’t realize they can get caught by authorization and restriction requirements.  As the authorization list grows, so do their vulnerabilities.

The UKCSF also offers a very practical Guide to Substitution that lays out the challenges (aka barriers) and context (life cycle thinking and business sustainability) that need to be considered for substituting away from authorized (or otherwise undesirable chemicals).
