Interesting report from McKinsey on how companies see themselves tackling sustainability:

Sustainability’s strategic worth: McKinsey Global Survey results

CEO’s largely see themselves as pretty aggressive on sustainability.  Certainly appears to be the politically correct position to take.  Self-reported actions seem high, but...maybe so.

Check out the difference between "leaders" and others in Exhibit 5.  Leaders are nearly 3 - 5 times more likely to have:

  • aggressive internal and external targets or goals
  • unified sustainability strategy with no more than 5 focus areas
  • broad leadership coalition setting targets and strategy
  • financial benefits of sustainability are clearly understood across the company

Manufacturing and extractive industries seem to be the leaders.
